Why Study in Chile?

Brochures

SRJC Chile flyer (PDF)

Chile is a country of startling contrasts and extreme beauty, with attractions ranging from the towering volcanic peaks of the Andes to the ancient forests of the Lake District. The varied climate ranges from the world’s driest desert—the Atacama—in the north, through a Mediterranean climate in the center, to a snow-prone Alpine climate in the south, with glaciers, fjords and lakes.

Highlights of Chile

  • Open to students age 18 and older who have graduated from high school and have completed 12 units of college course work with a minimum 2.25 grade point average
  • Live with a Chilean family in a single room
  • Study in Viña del Mar, a city with long stretches of white sandy beaches along central Chile’s Pacific coast
  • Enjoy an excursion to Pucón in the Lake District
  • Visit Santiago, Chile’s capital, and explore the Museum of Pre-Colombian Art, see artisans at work, and tour the Presidential Palace as well as other of the city’s sites
  • Experience the rich patterns of Chilean life in the 21st century

Why Choose this Program?

This program is offered to enable students to study abroad while making normal progress toward their degree objectives, and earning fully transferable units in courses taught by community college faculty and guest lecturers. This program is offered in conjunction with the American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS), which arranges transportation, living accommodations, and a wide range of student and instructional support services.
