Symphonic Band
MUSCP 30ABCD (2.5 units) Joe Perea, Director
The SRJC Symphonic Band meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 1:30 PM and is open by audition to all qualified players of woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments (including piano and harp) who attend SRJC. The group performs a wide variety of music from the wind band repertoire, including marches, transcriptions, and contemporary original works. The group performs two to three times a semester and some sectional work outside of scheduled class time may be required. A limited number of school-owned instruments are available for student use. Instrument lockers are available on a first come, first served basis.
Joe Perea holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Percussion Performance from the University of Cincinnati
College-Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music Degree from the University of North Texas. He
has performed in symphony orchestras and wind bands throughout the United States, including the University
of North Texas Wind Symphony directed by Eugene Corporon and the Dallas Wind Symphony directed by Jerry
Junkin and the late Frederick Fennell. Mr. Perea has performed on numerous recordings by the University
of North Texas and Cincinnati Wind Symphonies on the Klavier label, as well as the popular GIA Publications
Teaching Music Through Performance in Band reference series. His teachers and mentors include
such luminaries as Eugene Corporon, Allen Otte, Robert Schietroma, Jack Stamp, and Leigh Howard Stevens.
