A Todos Nuestros Estudiantes Que Hablan Español

To All Our Spanish Speaking Students

The Child Development Department is pleased to offer classes that will help you establish a rewarding career as an early childhood teacher. Our community needs skilled, trained bilingual teachers.

Our goal in offering these classes is to provide a course of study that will allow you to enter a career path with an established career ladder. In order to progress on the ladder it will be necessary for you to improve your English skills, too. The courses that we offer address both issues and integrate the two.

When you have taken the 12 units of Child Development on the Spanish speaker's career track you will have established the following:

Eligibility for the Child Development Associate Teacher Certificate from SRJC and a Child Development Associate Teacher Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. This certificate indicates that you have successfully completed the beginning courses in early education. Twelve units of Child Development allow you to be a teacher in a private preschool or day care center. The permit helps you to obtain work as a teacher in a state funded early childhood program. Generally, these programs offer better pay and benefits than the private programs.
