![]() FACULTY SHOW 2009: Recent Work by SRJC FacultyNovember 5 - December 12, 2009
Will Collier, Untitled with Wash Artist StatementI draw in large series and over long periods. I draw what I’m drawn to. I try to balance the tension between a penchant for complexity and a respect for restraint, a pull to describe and a push to abstract, an attraction to likeness and an urge to move through it, somehow forward yet embedded in the source. One part of me is active: concocting, composing, controlling. Another part is simply watching where things go,wondering where they will lead and puzzling over possible meanings. Teaching PhilosophyStudio art classes ideally can be conducive to a sort of “group learning” whereby students learn from each other as well as the instructor. It is assumed that everyone comes with a different level of experience. There is no need, however, for one to feel either superior or inferior, or to compare oneself with others in a competitive way. The creative process and the learning process are more important than any single work.
